I got promoted from 5th grade!

Updated: 2 days ago

Today I was promoted from 5th grade! I am excited to start this new chapter of my life in middle school!

My promotion speech draft:

In 3rd grade something crazy happened! My teacher, [name], told us we’d be staying home the next 3 weeks because of a new virus called the coronavirus. We were all shocked. Nothing like this had ever happened to us before! And, 3 weeks soon became 4 weeks, then 5 weeks, then 2 months, and before we knew it I would not be going back to Park Village for the rest of 3rd grade and all of 4th grade. The pandemic separated us, and one of my friends, [name], I haven’t seen in-person since the lockdown. But soon I found out that I enjoyed virtual learning. I could stay in my cozy home, and play with my family on breaks. I still missed various elements of school, like field trips, recess, and fundraisers, but I was content with virtual learning for the rest of 4th grade (except for having to do 1 hour of i-Ready each week). Especially since I got more free time. I found ways to connect with friends, and I even made new friends! By the end of the year, I didn’t even want to go back to in-person school! But once I eased into 5th grade, I found it was actually fun! I got to do a lot of the activities I had missed in 4th grade. But even 5th grade was very different from normal. We still had to wear masks, and there were still activities that we didn’t get to do. These next few years will be ones of change and uncertainty, especially since we are transferring to middle school, but we can get through them if we try hard and never give up! I would like to wish every 5th grader at Park Village Elementary good luck with middle school.

I would like to thank my amazing 4th and 5th grade teacher Mrs. Kirkland for helping us get through the pandemic. I made a project to thank her on Scratch: https://scratch.mit.edu/projects/700919205/

My schedule might get busier in middle school, but I will definitely continue to post on Scratch!
